NABUA Primary School has farewelled its longest serving ancillary staff member.
Seventy-five-year-old Lavenia Cakau has been working for the school since 1974.
She started her work mixing skim milk provided by the Ministry of Health and later moved on with other work around the school.
"I used to earn $5 a week and did that for three years," she said.
After that she started working in the school canteen and worked there for four years.
She then became the school gardener and cleaner and did that until she retired on Friday.
"I don't want to leave the children and school. I have spent most of my life here," she said.
Assistant headteacher Serupepeli Caginavanua said her services would be missed.
"She used to clean drains and watch over the school at night," Mr Caginavanua said.
