Out you go: Walker given 7 days to leave the country

MELISSA Walker has been told by the Immigration Department to leave the country within seven days.

However, Netball Fiji president Milika Munivai said she was unaware of the incident.

The sacked Netball Fiji coach said two immigration officers served her with the notice at her home yesterday morning.

"I was just so shocked when they handed over the letter," she said.

"My baby is just two weeks old and can't travel without a passport," Walker said.

She said this has gone beyond her imagination.

"They should understand that I have just given birth here and my child is a victim of this incident."

She blamed the internal bickering and money owed to her by Netball Fiji as the reason behind the incident.

"Just pay me the money that is owed to me then I'll leave."

Walker confirmed that the amount was around $40,000.

She said her court case against the FNA over the non-payment of her salary and breach of contract was scheduled for November 24.

Munivai, when contacted, said it was news to her.

"So far I haven't heard anything about Walker since she's no longer an issue because she's been terminated," Munivai said.

"Where did you get your story from? Tell me the truth, is it confirmed?

"This is news to me!"

Director of Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa confirmed that a letter was handed to Walker yesterday.

"But it was related to a letter we (Immigration) received from Netball Fiji stating that Walker's working contract had been terminated and her service is no longer required," he said.

"However, her solicitor contacted us regarding her court case, which we were unaware of.

"We will sit down with her solicitor on Monday and see if it's necessary for her to be present. Another decision will be made then," he said.

Fiji Netball and Walker have been odds since the team went on the tour to South Africa in May.

FNA claimed Walker and her management defied the order of the association not to go on tour. This resulted in Walker getting the sack, after which she was reinstated by the state.

Walker was sacked again in October but maintained she was still the coach of the team until such time that FNA sat with her to discuss her payments.
