ABOUT 600 scouts from the Central Division converged on Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday for the Central Scouts Rally.
The day began with a march through Nausori Town from Ratu Cakobau House to the park led by the police band.
Scouts headquarters commissioner Apakuki Divi said the rally was aimed at reviving scouting skills in Fiji.
"This is an annual event combining six districts. In the past, each district held its own rally but this year we have combined it," he said.
"Gospel schools in Suva were the only ones participating in the rally from Suva.
"Others were from Vunidawa and Nausori areas."
Mr Divi said various activities were organised for the young lads including coconut tree climbing and husking.
The rally focussed on the theme "Skills for Life Scouting".
"We initially asked for sponsorship but there was no major sponsor," Mr Divi said. "We received donations from business people and this was a boost for the scouts."
"We are hoping to have a revival of scout leaders in the country sometime this month."
Commissioner of Police Esala Teleni was chief guest and presentations were presented to the scouts for their participation in the rally.
