IT company in Fiji foray

Monday, November 16, 2009

AN information technology company is hoping to offer locally solutions to industry challenges that used to require expatriate expertise locally.

The Digital Group with offices in the United States of America, India and Sydney has expanded its footprint to Fiji with hopes of going further in the region.

Former University of the South Pacific professor, M.D.Sharma is leading the company as chairperson. "We are here to offer solutions- how we can develop through technology," Prof Sharma said.

Based at the ICT Park in Suva, the company has secured a contract with the government for the provision of online services.

The e-governance project would be done in two phases- the first to come live on December 16 and the second around the second quarter of next year. "Fiji is the hub of the Pacific which is why we have chosen to come here," Prof Sharma said.

Company program coordinator Mukesh Chotrani said they were unique in the sense that they offer their services from the start until the end of a project.

"Depending on the size of the project, we offer warranty of a minimum of three months," he said.

"We make sure that the users know the technology and that they can fix problems if they do arise in the future. In that way, it eliminates the problem of bringing in overseas expertise as has been the case in Fiji in some instances.

"We more or less work 24 hours, seven days because we have offices in Fiji, India and the USA.

"When it is morning in India, it is afternoon in Fiji and night in the USA, so the work gets completed in one-third of normal time and at one third the normal cost."

Mr Chotrani who was based in Manhattan, New York for the past two and half year before his posting to Fiji said they created softwares from scratch using information available.

The company is a certified partner of Microsoft, Oracle, HP Invest, Interprise Solutions to name a few.

They offer IT services in information management, legal solutions, data management, pharmaceutical solutions, enterprise integration, e-commerce, business process outsourcing, government solutions, backoffice solutions and IT management.
