TC Gita: Devastation clear

Update: 11:13AM STORIES and pictures coming out of Tonga this morning speak of severe Tropical Cyclone Gita destruction on a scale the island kingdom have not experienced before.

Two journalists Fiji Times Online were able to contact this morning managed a few words, 'scary' and 'devastating' among  them.

Fijian national Iliesa Tora, a journalist and entrepreneur said he had five people in his house which sustained damage overnight.

Thanking divine protection, Mr Tora said some people have suffered a worst fate. 

Fiji Times Online is trying to ascertain initial international news media reports of fatalities.
