VALENTINE'S Day came with a different message for Fijian weight-lifter Della Shaw yesterday

While many marked the day with roses, gifts, lunches and kisses, Shaw's was sealed with an urge for successful outing at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April.

She is expected to be the first Fijian weight-lifter to become a technical official during the games.

Yesterday, husband Henry Elder pledged his utmost support to the former Oceania weight-lifting queen towards the games.

"We love each other and what makes us unique is our interest in sport," Elder said.

"We understand the meaning of Valentine's Day and every day is Valentine's Day to us."

Shaw said her husband's love and support helped her overcome obstacles.

"Getting your husband's support means a lot.

"We have a common interest to see young people succeed and our marriage is strengthened by love and understanding each other.

"He is there supporting me every day and especially my preparation to the Commonwealth Games.

"His support is unlimited."

Elder and Shaw married in 2014.

In April before the games Elder will be in Switzerland to graduate in a course in athletics while his wife will travel to Australia.

"We clicked from the start because our relationship is linked to what we love doing which is developing and teaching sports," Shaw said.
