Adi Meretui joins SODELPA camp

ADI Meretui Ratunabuabua is a provisional candidate for the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA).

At this year's polls, Adi Meretui would focus on strengthening iTaukei institutions.

Born in Vunamoli Village, Nasesevia, Nadi, Adi Meretui grew up overseas at various British Army camps around the world.

Her father was one of the first 212 Fijians enlisted into the British Army in 1961.

She said she was amazed by Fiji's rich cultural heritage after a long absence, but was also alarmed at the rapid loss of its languages, cultural identity and the deterioration and respect for traditional chiefly leadership and cultural institutions.

Adi Meretui had served in the Ministry of Fijian Affairs Department of Heritage and Culture and was the director of Fiji Museum before she retired in 2017.

She said safeguarding cultural institutions through appropriate policies and legislations would be her area of focus if she gets elected into Parliament.

Meanwhile, two of the party's provisional candidates, Tanya Waqanika and Jone Kata, had their fundraising dinner at the Wailoaloa Beach Resort in Nadi on Saturday night.

The fundraising dinner was to raise funds for the campaigns of the two provisional candidates in the lead-up to the 2018 polls.

Party leader Sitiveni Rabuka was the chief guest at the event.
