Sau's 7s aim

THE victory at the New Zealand 7s in Hamilton is history now with the focus turned towards the Las Vegas and Vancover 7s in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series, says Fiji Airways Fiji 7s rep Eroni Sau.

The man who was given the nick name "Sledgehammer" by sevens series commentators made the comments as the national 7s side marched into camp last week in preparation for the next two events under the guidance of coach Gareth Baber.

After the emphatic 24-17 victory over South Africa at the NZ 7s, the next two events will mark the third leg of the series.

Sau was at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday supporting the Police side which was participating in the Ram Sami Nasinu 7s.

"There are still a lot of things to improve on such as defence and attack. Every tournament we go to, we have to go through a lot of challenges. We learn from it and every new tournament is a new set of games.

"Winning in Hamilton is history now the focus is on the next tournament.

"We have to work hard and learn from our mistakes for the next game," Sau said.

"My personal aim is to work hard in whatever I can do to contribute to the team.

"To give something to the team in order to put our different efforts too in trying to achieve what we want. Every team now is tough.

"Every team knows how to play rugby and now four different teams have won the last four tournaments

Sau said making the team to the Commonwealth Games and later Rugby World Cup 7s would be a major achievement for him.

"If selected, I will be a really proud Fijian. I know there are a lot of talents out there and if given a chance, I will be proud to represent my country," he said.

Las Vegas 7s will be held from March 3 to 5.

Fiji is pooled with Kenya, France and Russia.
