RIO Olympian gold medallist Kitione Taliga opted out of the star studded Saunaka Reds team to help his village side Dratabu at the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s.

Saunaka Reds team manager Pesi Nasau said they released the players who wanted to represent their respective village teams for this tournamennt.

Nasau said they made a good start winning all three pool games.

"This is a tougher tournament from the Senibiau 7s last week," he said.

"There are stronger teams and more games. The double eliminations will really test the fitness of the players. We want to maintain our consistency."

Saunaka Reds featured Masivesi Dakuwaqa and Apenisa Cakaubalavu.

The side defeated Yamacia 19-0, China One 7-5 and Coastal Rentals Cagimaira 24-0.
