Post Fiji paycut decision rescinded

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Update: 9:52AM A PROPOSED 10 per cent pay for all Post Fiji employees nationwide has been rescinded.

The withdrawal of the paycut decision was made after consultation with the Ministry of Public Enterprises, Post Fiji confirmed.

The 10 per cent salary reduction for all Post Fiji staff was supposed to have been made effective today for the next ten weeks.

Post Fiji yesterday confirmed there would now be no pay cut, but that other strategies would be put in place to arrest the situation.

The proposed reduction had come as the company, one of the most successful State-owned entities, recorded only $40,000 in profit at the end of last month.

The Fiji Postal and Telecommunications Employees Association general secretary Attar Singh was yesterday pleased with the withdrawal of the paycut decision.

He said there were some outstanding issues that the company had to deal with in regard to employee conditions.
