THE baby Flying Fijians proved too strong for the Tongans as they won both the Under-12 and Under-14 matches at the tfl National Stadium yesterday.

In the Under-12 division, the Lasarusa Senibale-coached side scored a last-minute try to overcome an improved junior Ikale Tahi side winning 5 points to 3.

Tonga was leading 3-0 but Fiji had Josese Daveta to thank as he scored the last-minute try to seal the victory.

Coach Kitione Turagabeci admitted it was not an easy win.

"They were well prepared this time," he said.

The U-14 proved their supremacy in their second encounter thumping Tonga 20-0.

Tonga's Sports Ministry chief executive Dr Taniela L Fusimalohi said the future national representatives benefitted from the tournament.

"We'll come back prepared next year for this meet," he said.

"To include Samoa next year will boost the purpose of the meet."

A crowd of about 1500 were on hand to witness the talented boys display rugby at its best.
